DOOM launched on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter

The DOOM community's passion for running the iconic shooter on unconventional platforms shows no signs of waning. Recently, a tech-savvy enthusiast known as NyanSatan achieved an impressive feat: running DOOM on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter. This device, equipped with its own iOS-based firmware and a processor capable of reaching up to 168 MHz, became the latest battleground for DOOM's demons.

NyanSatan's process involved accessing the adapter's firmware and then executing the game. Since the adapter itself lacks sufficient memory, a MacBook was used to facilitate the firmware transfer, enabling this unique gaming experience.

In related news, the upcoming DOOM: The Dark Ages promises to revolutionize the franchise's approach to accessibility and customization. The development team at id Software, led by executive producer Marty Stratton, has focused on making the game as inclusive as possible. Players will have the ability to adjust various gameplay elements, including demon aggression, enemy damage, difficulty levels, projectile speed, and even the game's tempo and parry timing. These features aim to cater to a broad spectrum of player preferences and skill levels.

Stratton emphasized that DOOM: The Dark Ages will offer more customization options than any previous id Software project. Moreover, he assured fans that understanding the narratives of both DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal does not require playing the former, ensuring that new players can jump in without missing crucial context.
