Bethesda Surprises Fans with Starfield Patch Amid Oblivion Remastered Buzz

Amid the buzz surrounding The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda has released a surprise patch for Starfield, enhancing the game with 'Very Low' display settings to boost performance, additional support for Creations (mods), and numerous fixes across quests, vehicles, the user interface, and the Shattered Space DLC. This update is currently available in Steam beta for PC players, with Bethesda actively seeking feedback and having published comprehensive patch notes.

This latest update primarily focuses on adding new features and resolving bugs, yet Starfield enthusiasts are still eagerly awaiting news on potential future DLCs. Launched in September 2023, Starfield marked Bethesda's first new IP in 25 years. Despite attracting 15 million players, it didn't garner the same acclaim as Bethesda's storied Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. The subsequent Shattered Space expansion, released in September 2024, received a 'mostly negative' user review rating on Steam.

Amid growing discontent over communication and updates, Bethesda has assured fans of "exciting things" planned for Starfield in 2024. The studio reaffirmed its commitment to the game in June 2024, promising at least one more story expansion following Shattered Space. In an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard outlined plans for annual story expansions "for hopefully a very long time."

Speculation about a PlayStation 5 release intensified in March after fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website, attached to a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield. Though the Creation was later removed, it fueled discussions about whether Starfield, currently exclusive to PC and Xbox, might soon be available on PS5.
