Balatro Surpasses 5 Million Sales on All Platforms

If you've been keeping up with gaming news over the past few months, you won't be shocked to hear that LocalThunk's innovative blend of solitaire, roguelike, and deck-building game, Balatro, has now surpassed a remarkable five million sales across all platforms. Since its launch, Balatro has been showered with critical acclaim and player adoration, securing multiple prestigious awards, especially on mobile platforms.

While it's tempting to compare these numbers to other game releases in terms of downloads and players, it's crucial to highlight two key points: firstly, Balatro is the work of a solo developer, and secondly, all these sales are premium purchases, directly benefiting the developer and publisher Playstack.

Reaching this milestone is particularly noteworthy. Although we don't have precise figures on how many of these sales were made on mobile devices, the last reported data in December showed 3.5 million sales, which means an impressive 1.5 million sales have been added since then during its run on mobile.

However, it's undeniable that Balatro stands out as one of the most high-profile successes, especially considering the journey it has taken to achieve such popularity. We're still eager to see how Balatro performs in long-term sales as it continues to receive crossover updates and more.

The question now is whether this success will bolster confidence among both average mobile gamers and industry professionals in pushing more indie games to mobile platforms. Here's hoping it does.
