Atelier Yumia: Memory Alchemist's Land Synthesis Guide

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 23,2025

One of the most intricate elements of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is central to the game's core gameplay. Every resource you gather and every piece of equipment you craft revolves around this system. Here’s a guide to mastering it.

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In Atelier Yumia, you can engage in three distinct types of Synthesis:

  • Regular Synthesis is performed at an Alchemist's altar. This is the primary method for crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and materials needed for further Synthesis. You'll unlock the Atelier early in the game, allowing you to return and Synthesize at any time. In areas where you can build, such as cleared manabound zones and campsites, you can construct a Simple Altar to enable regular Synthesis.

  • Simple Synthesis is accessible anytime outside of battle through the radial menu. It's used to create items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and repair kits for treasure chests, ladders, and more, provided you have the necessary resources.

  • Building Synthesis, though not explicitly labeled as such, is accessed through the radial menu in specific plots of land. Here, Yumia synthesizes storage chests and wall hangings, which the story often refers to as Synthesis.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

The most complex form of Synthesis is the regular type conducted at altars. To craft an item like a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to find the recipe while exploring. You can also upgrade existing recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains. Here's how to proceed at an Alchemist's altar:

  1. Select the type of gun staff you want to create.
  2. Choose Synthesis Skills if they are unlocked in the skill tree.
  3. Select the initial Alchemy Core to build upon:
    • Effects Alchemy Core enhances the selected skills.
    • Quality Alchemy Core boosts the quality level of the finished item.
    • Trait Alchemy Core increases the number of Trait Crystal slots available for the item.
  4. Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with the resources you've collected.
  5. Collect mana fragments to further increase the item's quality.
  6. Synthesize the item once you're satisfied with your setup.

To craft powerful items early in the game, unlock Synthesis Skills from the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills provide flat damage and quality boosts, and allow you to duplicate items, saving resources.

You can enhance the item's quality by adding resources to all three Alchemy Cores. Use the left or right bumper to switch between cores while filling slots. Collecting mana fragments (yellow sparkles) for all three cores significantly boosts the item's strength, which is advisable unless you're crafting a quest item.

When selecting resources, prioritize those that match the element type of the specific slots, identified by a blue outline. You can organize your resources in the submenu to select higher-quality ones first, though you might want to focus on effects instead.

If the complexity of this mechanic is overwhelming, opt for the auto-Synthesis option after selecting your Synthesis Skills. The game excels at creating the best possible item, enabling you to tackle the final boss on Normal difficulty without much trouble.

And that's everything you need to know to maximize the Synthesis mechanic in Atelier Yumia.
