Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Max Level/Rank and Level Cap Details Revealed

Author:Kristen Update:May 06,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands as one of the most expansive entries in the acclaimed franchise, featuring a sophisticated progression system tailored to its vast scope. In this guide, we delve into the maximum levels achievable in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* and explain how the level cap functions.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a refreshed approach to progression within the series. While the acquisition of skills is primarily tied to the innovative Knowledge Ranks system, traditional XP-based progression remains a crucial element. Advancing your XP in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* not only unlocks higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear but also enhances the base stats of protagonists Naoe and Yasuke.

To explore all the Japanese provinces on the game's map, players need only reach Level 35. However, the XP journey extends well beyond this point. Initially, Ubisoft hinted at a Level Cap of 40, but players have discovered they can grind up to Level 60. There's a high chance this cap might be elevated further with the upcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion for *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

What Is the Max Knowledge Rank in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the Knowledge Rank system marks a significant evolution in the franchise's progression mechanics. Distinct from the XP leveling system, Knowledge Ranks advance through earning Knowledge Points from various open-world activities that focus on mindfulness and training. As players ascend through the Knowledge Ranks, new skills become available for Naoe and Yasuke, though these must be unlocked with Mastery Points.

To access all skills for unlocking, players must reach Knowledge Rank 6. However, progression doesn't end there; upon achieving this rank, Naoe and Yasuke unlock an additional Knowledge tree, offering several passive skills to further tailor your gameplay to your preferred style.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery represents the third pillar of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, serving as the game's equivalent to skill points. These are crucial for unlocking new skills across the six Mastery trees for each protagonist. The skills vary in the amount of Mastery required to unlock them.

With a plethora of skills to unlock, players can earn Mastery Points through a wide array of in-game activities. While theoretically, there could be a limit to Mastery Points, reaching it would demand extensive engagement with the game. The forthcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion, slated for late 2025, is expected to introduce new methods for acquiring Mastery Points.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each of Japan's provinces comes with an associated level. At the outset, the highest level requirement is for Kii, set at Level 35. As you progress and your XP level increases, the level of certain regions adjusts to match yours.

However, there's a late-game limit to how high enemy and province difficulty levels can scale, starting from Level 40. From Level 42 onwards, the recommended level for each province remains two levels below your current XP level. This mechanic ensures a balanced challenge and maintains an engaging combat pace in the endgame, rewarding players who dedicate extensive time to the game.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.*
