When Naoe or Yasuke pets a cat or dog in Assassin’s Creed Shadows for the first time, that breed becomes available for the Hideout. Various dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens can join the League, including the stray from the pre-order DLC quest “Thrown to the Dogs.”

Yasuke can also unlock smaller animals by painting them. Creatures like rabbits, fox kits, tanukis, and monkeys can be documented in the wild and added to the Hideout if desired.

At vendors across Japan, players can purchase farm animals, such as oxen and goats, for varying amounts of mon.

How to Add Animals to the Hideout in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Enter the Hiroma and approach the bench to upgrade the Hideout. In the customization menu, switch to build mode and select the wolf icon on the far right. This displays all unlocked animal types, organized into dogs, cats, and “other.”

Choose an animal to add to the Hideout. You’ll enter an overhead view of the Hideout, where you can place the animal on an open grid. Animals roam freely once you return to game mode, so they may not stay in the exact spot you chose.

Except for the “Thrown to the Dogs” pup, you can add multiple instances of any animal to the Hideout. The game caps the total number of animals, so plan your selection carefully. You can remove or replace animals at any time in build mode.
