Assassin's Creed Shadows: Free Updates and DLC Plans Revealed

Ubisoft has unveiled an exciting roadmap for the first year of post-launch content for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, promising a slew of enhancements that are sure to keep players engaged. The detailed plans for 2025 were showcased in a concise yet informative four-and-a-half-minute video, highlighting a schedule for May and June. This roadmap aims to deliver continuous free updates throughout the year, ensuring fans have plenty of reasons to return to the game.

The journey begins in early May with the release of The Works of Luis Frois, the first of several free story add-ons. Alongside this, players can expect a Codex update, quality-of-life improvements, and significant enhancements to parkour and photo mode. These updates reflect Ubisoft's commitment to listening to the community and integrating their feedback into the ongoing development of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

In the video, community developer Daniel St. Germain emphasized the importance of player feedback: “Your feedback has been a core focus of the team throughout development, and that’s not stopping now that Shadows is released. Regular title updates are coming, each with impactful additions – and changes – based on your feedback and requests, with some bug fixes to continue refining the experience across all platforms.”

June will see the release of another free story drop, along with more challenging difficulty settings, gameplay immersion options, an open-world alarm system, and the ability to toggle headgear during cutscenes. These features are highly anticipated by players, and Ubisoft has promised even more, including new game+ support, additional story content, and special collaborations before the year ends.

A highlight of the post-launch roadmap is the first major DLC expansion, Claws of Awaji, set to launch later in the year. This expansion will introduce new content such as the Bo staff weapon and a new region for protagonists Naoe and Yasuke to explore, offering a 10-hour adventure. While pricing details are still under wraps, those who pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Shadows before its launch last month will receive it for free.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched on March 20 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, bringing Ubisoft’s iconic stealth series to the rich setting of Feudal Japan. The game has already made a significant impact, earning a spot on our list of the best games of 2025 so far and topping the charts as the best-selling game of last month.
