Author:Kristen Update:May 13,2025

Amazon's God of War TV series is gearing up for an exciting launch, already secured for two seasons before its premiere, as announced by showrunner Ronald D. Moore. Moore stepped into the role following the exit of previous showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. In a candid chat with Katee Sackhoff, a familiar face from his Battlestar Galactica days, Moore shared insights into his current project.

"Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore explained. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."

Despite not being a gamer himself, Moore enjoys classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He humorously recounted his struggles with modern game controllers, saying, "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," illustrating his amusing attempts to dive into gaming culture.

For the God of War series, Moore has taken on the multifaceted role of writer, executive producer, and showrunner. His resume boasts significant projects such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the acclaimed 2000s reboot of Battlestar Galactica, bringing a wealth of experience to the adaptation.

Even with some changes in the production team, Sony's Cory Barlog remains a key executive producer. While specifics about the series are still under wraps, it's confirmed that the show will draw from the 2018 installment of God of War.

Amazon's strategy of swiftly renewing successful video game adaptations, such as the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, signals high hopes for God of War's streaming success. This proactive approach bodes well for fans eagerly anticipating the series.
