In *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, combat is central to your experience, and having better weapons can make all the difference. After the prologue, Henry is left with little to defend himself, but there's a way to secure a valuable weapon early on—the Dogwood Village Bow, which you can obtain for free.

After parting ways with Hans, your next goal is to find a way into the wedding. You can choose between working as a blacksmith or a miller to make yourself useful enough to attend. Even if you decide against the blacksmith job, the map marker for it will guide you directly to the Dogwood Village Bow. If you're interested in the blacksmith job to gain entry to Semine's wedding, you'll also want to learn how to obtain the hermit's sword, but that comes later.
The blacksmith job is located in Tachov, north of Troskowitz, where the prologue concludes and the game world opens up. From Troskowitz, follow the road west, then continue as it curves north. At a point where the main road splits and a smaller road leads west, turn right into a cluster of trees that's easy to overlook. Hidden among these trees is a small training area.

Within this cluster, you'll find a target with arrows sticking out of it. Collect these arrows for free ammunition, then look to the right side of the tree to find the Dogwood Village Bow leaning against the trunk. Additionally, you can grab some brew from a nearby stump and pick mushrooms in the area. Once you've gathered what you need, you can proceed with your current quest.

Alternatively, you can purchase the Dogwood Village Bow from Huntsman's Son Vitek in Tachov, but it's not the most powerful ranged weapon available. Given its proximity to the free version, it's more economical to pick up the free bow if you lack a ranged option. Vitek also sells other, more effective weapons, and you can earn money through alchemy by collecting herbs and brewing potions to sell.
Whether you choose the free bow or aim to buy a different weapon, having a ranged combat option is crucial, especially since difficulty settings can't be changed. The combat in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2* remains similar to the first game, and melee combat isn't for everyone. Personally, I prefer relying on ranged weapons whenever possible.
If you head to Tachov to become a blacksmith, you can sleep and save after proving your ability to forge a sword. Alternatively, continue to the miller to progress the main quest. With a ranged weapon, combat in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2* becomes more manageable.
And that's how to secure the free Dogwood Village Bow early in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*.
