It features an engaging learning path filled with films, games, and a variety of exercises that guide children through the initial stages of mastering the written German language. As the first in the Zebra App series for learning to read and write German from years 1 to 4, it's an essential starting point for young learners.
The ZEBRA WRITING TABLE app focuses on writing phonetic words using fundamental vocabulary. It helps children practice basic phonetic-letter assignments, and if they make a mistake, the app corrects it automatically after the third incorrect attempt. By displaying both the correct word and the child's input, kids can easily compare and learn from their mistakes. This playful approach builds essential orthographic awareness. Additionally, the content of the tutorials refreshes with each new game, ensuring that repeated practice remains exciting and engaging.
The app includes a range of features to enhance learning:
- Child-friendly videos that explain the basics.
- Automatic correction of incorrect entries, with the correct solution shown after the third attempt.
- A clear arrangement of exercises on a structured learning path.
- Opportunities for self-determined learning.
- Motivation through collecting stars and trophies.

Within the app, there are two distinct areas for practice:
SWINGING SYLLABLES AND WRITING: This area introduces children to the writing table and includes various exercises:
- “initial-sound-rap”
- Movie "speak - listen - swing"
- Task "hear and swing"
- “ZEBRA writing table game”
- Movie "writing with the ZEBRA writing table"
- Task "swing and write" at simple and difficult levels
HEARING SOUNDS: This section focuses on phonological awareness, crucial for learning written language, with the following listening tasks:
- Which word begins with...?
- Which words sound similar at the beginning?
- Where do you hear the sound in the word?
- With which sound does the word begin?
These listening tasks are available as an in-app purchase, which can only be accessed in the teacher-parent area, protected by a numerical barrier to prevent unintended purchases. The app ensures that children cannot make in-app purchases without adult supervision, safeguarding the learning experience.
