Resident Evil 4 Remake Surpasses 9 Million Copies Sold: Capcom Celebrates Milestone

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake has achieved a phenomenal sales milestone, exceeding 9 million copies sold since its release. This remarkable achievement follows the recent launch of the Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition (February 2023) and an iOS port (late 2023), significantly boosting sales figures. The game's rapid success builds upon its previous milestone of 8 million copies sold shortly after launch.

The March 2023 remake, a reimagining of the 2005 classic, follows Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham, from a sinister cult. This iteration notably shifted the gameplay focus towards action, diverging from the series' survival horror roots.

CapcomDev1's Twitter account commemorated this achievement with celebratory artwork depicting various beloved characters – Ada, Krauser, Saddler, Salazar, and Bitores Mendez – enjoying a game of bingo. A recent update further enhanced the PS5 Pro experience, adding to the game's appeal.

Unstoppable Momentum: Resident Evil 4's Record-Breaking Success

According to Alex Aniel, author of the Resident Evil fan book "Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil," Resident Evil 4 has become the fastest-selling title in the franchise. This is particularly impressive when compared to Resident Evil Village, which reached 500,000 copies sold only after its eighth quarter.

Anticipation Builds: What's Next for the Resident Evil Franchise?

The overwhelming success of Resident Evil 4, and the series as a whole, has fueled fan speculation about Capcom's next move. A remake of Resident Evil 5 is a highly anticipated possibility, especially considering the relatively short timeframe (just over a year) between the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, other entries in the franchise, such as Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica – both crucial to the overarching narrative – are also strong contenders for a modern update. Naturally, the prospect of a Resident Evil 9 announcement would also excite fans immensely.
