Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Support Cloud Saves

Author:Kristen Update:May 06,2025

Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, putting to rest earlier concerns sparked by a disclaimer on the game's page. As reported by IGN, fans were initially worried that this enhanced version, along with other special editions for the Switch 2, might not include Nintendo's cloud save functionality. The original disclaimer on Nintendo's site for Tears of the Kingdom stated, "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature."

However, Nintendo has since updated its website with new information. While Donkey Kong Bananza's page no longer mentions cloud saves at all, the disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom has been revised to read: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This update should reassure Switch 2 owners, indicating that players will be able to transfer their old Switch 1 saves to the new Switch 2, but not vice versa, as noted by Eurogamer.

The same message has also been added to the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, suggesting a consistent approach to save data transfers across these titles.

In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live overnight, maintaining a price point of $449.99. As expected, the demand was high. For more details, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
