Iron Patriot's Mechanics

Iron Patriot is a 2-cost, 3-power card with a unique ability: "On Reveal: Add a random 4, 5, or 6-Cost card to your hand. If you’re winning here after the next turn, give it -4 Cost.”

This seemingly complex ability is straightforward. Iron Patriot adds a high-cost card to your hand, and if you control the location after your next turn, that card's cost is significantly reduced (making a 4-cost card 0 cost, a 5-cost 1 cost, and a 6-cost 2 cost). This can lead to game-winning plays, particularly with cards like Doctor Doom. However, strategic placement is crucial to secure the location advantage. Cards like Juggernaut, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rocket and Groot directly interact with and counter Iron Patriot's effect.

Best Iron Patriot Decks

Iron Patriot's versatility allows inclusion in various decks, but he excels in specific archetypes. Two prominent examples are Wiccan-centric strategies and Devil Dinosaur hand-generation decks.

Wiccan-Style Deck:

This deck leverages Iron Patriot's card generation to fuel Wiccan's energy manipulation. Key cards include Kitty Pryde, Zabu, Hydra Bob (or similar high-power replacements), Psylocke, US Agent, Rocket and Groot, Copycat, Galactus, Daughter of Galactus, Wiccan, Legion, and Alioth. The goal is to maximize energy for a powerful final turn with Wiccan and Alioth, using US Agent and Rocket and Groot to control lanes. Iron Patriot's placement is key, ideally in an unrevealed lane to prevent opponent counterplay.

Devil Dinosaur Deck:

This deck revisits the classic Devil Dinosaur strategy, utilizing Iron Patriot's card generation alongside Victoria Hand (this week's Spotlight Cache card). The deck includes Maria Hill, Quinjet, Hydra Bob (or a 1-cost replacement like Nebula), Hawkeye Kate Bishop, Iron Patriot, Sentinel, Victoria Hand, Mystique, Agent Coulson, Shang-Chi, Wiccan, and Devil Dinosaur. This strategy aims for a powerful turn 5 Devil Dinosaur play, complemented by Mystique and Agent Coulson. If the hand size is insufficient for Devil Dinosaur, shifting to a Wiccan-focused final turn with Mystique copying Victoria Hand becomes the alternative. Sentinel's cost reduction further enhances the late-game power surge.

Is Iron Patriot Worth Buying the Season Pass?

Iron Patriot is a strong card, but not game-breaking. While you might not regret missing him, his value significantly increases for players employing hand-generation strategies. Therefore, the Season Pass purchase is highly recommended for those aiming to build decks around Iron Patriot's unique mechanics, considering the additional rewards the pass offers.
