Transformers: Reactivate Canceled by Splash Damage

Transformers: Reactivate Officially Cancelled by Splash Damage

Splash Damage has announced the cancellation of its Transformers: Reactivate project after a prolonged and challenging development cycle. This decision, while difficult, may result in staff layoffs at the studio.

Initially unveiled at The Game Awards 2022, Transformers: Reactivate was envisioned as a 1-4 player online game pitting Autobots and Decepticons against a new alien threat. While leaks suggested a roster including classic characters like Ironhide, Hot Rod, Starscream, and Soundwave, and possibly even Beast Wars characters, the game will not see release.

Splash Damage's announcement expressed gratitude to the development team and Hasbro for their contributions. Fan reactions are varied, with some expressing disappointment, while others anticipated the cancellation due to the lack of updates since the initial trailer.

The studio is now concentrating its efforts on "Project Astrid," a AAA open-world survival game built using Unreal Engine 5, a project announced in March 2023 in collaboration with streamers Shroud and Sacriel. This shift in focus, however, will unfortunately lead to redundancies within the company. The cancellation leaves Transformers fans awaiting a new high-quality game based on the popular franchise.

Summary:

  • Cancellation: Transformers: Reactivate cancelled after a troubled development.
  • Layoffs: Potential staff reductions at Splash Damage.
  • New Focus: Studio shifting to Unreal Engine 5 open-world survival game ("Project Astrid").
