Joseph Kosinski, known for directing films like Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy, is reportedly set to helm a new Miami Vice movie for Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The script will be penned by Nightcrawler writer-director Dan Gilroy, who is building on an initial draft by Top Gun: Maverick screenwriter Eric Warren Singer. Gilroy, who has recently contributed to the Star Wars series Andor—created by his brother Tony—brings his unique storytelling prowess to this project.

The iconic Miami Vice series, which ran on NBC from 1984 to 1989, was created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann. It starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as the stylish Miami detectives Crockett and Tubbs. The show is celebrated for its groundbreaking style and impact on television aesthetics.

Previously, Miami Vice was adapted into a film in 2006 by Michael Mann, featuring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.

PlayWhile further details on the new film are scarce, it's clear that *Miami Vice* won't be Kosinski's immediate follow-up to his upcoming project *F1*, set for release this June. This timeline allows Kosinski ample opportunity to dive into the vibrant world of *Miami Vice* and select the perfect Ferrari for the film, adding to its signature flair.
