Sydney Sweeney to star in Split Fiction movie adaptation

Sydney Sweeney has been cast in the upcoming film adaptation of Hazelight Studios' hit game Split Fiction. Last month, reports surfaced about Story Kitchen (the production company behind the Sonic films) developing the project, with plans for writers, directors, and cast.

Hollywood Talent Joins Split Fiction Adaptation

According to Variety, the project is gaining momentum with Madame Web star Sydney Sweeney attached. The film will be directed by Jon M. Chu (Wicked) with a screenplay by Deadpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Story Kitchen is currently pitching the package to major studios, anticipating competitive bidding.

The key casting mystery remains which twin sister Sweeney will portray - Zoe or Mio - a decision yet to be finalized according to Variety.

Despite only releasing in March, Split Fiction has become another commercial success for Hazelight and creator Josef Fares, selling over 2 million copies in its first week. The game is also confirmed as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title.

Critical Acclaim and Future Adaptations

IGN's review scored Split Fiction 9/10, praising it as: "An expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs between genres, offering a thrilling ride of constantly evolving gameplay that's incredibly hard to put down."

This isn't Hazelight's only game headed for Hollywood. The studio's previous hit It Takes Two (23 million copies sold) also has a planned film adaptation, with Dwayne Johnson potentially starring.

While these adaptations may not ultimately materialize, the current success of video game movies suggests strong Hollywood interest in bringing these projects to fruition.

Story Kitchen's Expanding Slate

Story Kitchen recently announced a Just Cause film adaptation with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto attached. The production company is also developing:

  • Dredge: The Movie
  • Kingmakers
  • Sleeping Dogs
  • A live-action Toys 'R' Us movie

Meanwhile, Hazelight has already begun teasing its next gaming project while these adaptations develop.
