Superman Unlimited Brings Marvel Mainstay Dan Slott Back to DC Comics

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 28,2025

DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting May 2025, marking the return of Marvel veteran Dan Slott to DC. Slott, renowned for his work on Marvel's Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, will be writing the series. While he previously contributed to DC titles like Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures, he's been exclusively with Marvel for two decades.

Superman Unlimited pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo. Slott expressed his lifelong ambition to craft Superman stories, emphasizing both the character's powers and inner strength. He promises a monthly escape filled with surprising storylines involving Superman, Lois Lane, supporting characters, classic villains, and new adversaries.

The series introduces a perilous new reality for Superman. A Kryptonite asteroid shower leaves the planet saturated with Green K, empowering foes like Intergang with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. This compels Superman to develop innovative technology and combat strategies. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia giant after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.

DC group editor Paul Kaminski compares the series' impact to that of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman in the early 2000s. He highlights the series' blend of classic Superman adventures with a significant plot point: a massive new Kryptonite deposit. This creates a world where even petty crimes pose extreme danger due to Kryptonite-laden weapons.

Kaminski further contrasts Superman Unlimited with the concurrently running Justice League Unlimited, emphasizing the former's focus on super-villains empowered by the widespread Green K, forcing Superman to adapt and overcome unprecedented challenges. He praises Slott's innovative plotlines and Albuquerque's stunning artwork.

A 10-page prelude story will appear in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 (May 3, 2025), preceding the launch of Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, shortly before James Gunn's Superman movie release on July 11.
