DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming; First Look Revealed

Production has officially begun on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark the occasion, DC Studios head James Gunn unveiled a first look at Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.

The image, shared on Bluesky, shows Alcock seated in her director's chair on set. Gunn expressed his excitement, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as director, as previously reported.

While plot details remain scarce, the film is heavily inspired by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's graphic novel of the same name. This Eisner Award-nominated comic follows Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl seeking Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel is a compelling read for those unfamiliar with the story.

The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. Further casting announcements include David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and the previously announced Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second film in the rebooted DC Universe, following James Gunn's Superman movie slated for release this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (its connection to the new DC Universe remains uncertain) and a rumored Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
