Suikoden Remasters Target Series Revival

The long-awaited return of Suikoden! After over a decade of absence, the classic JRPG series is poised for a comeback with the upcoming HD remaster of the first two games. This remaster aims not only to reintroduce Suikoden to a new generation of gamers but also to reignite the passion of longtime fans, potentially paving the way for future installments.

A New Generation, A Renewed Passion

Director Tatsuya Ogushi and Lead Planner Takahiro Sakiyama, in an interview with Famitsu, expressed their hopes that the HD remaster will act as a catalyst for future Suikoden titles. Ogushi, deeply connected to the series, paid tribute to the late Yoshitaka Murayama, the series creator. Sakiyama, who directed Suikoden V, emphasized his desire to reintroduce Suikoden to a wider audience.

An Enhanced Remaster Experience

Based on the 2006 Japan-exclusive PlayStation Portable collection, Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster brings several improvements. Konami promises enhanced HD backgrounds, polished pixel art sprites, and a new Gallery featuring music and cutscenes, along with an event viewer.

The remaster also addresses previous issues. The infamous shortened Luca Blight cutscene from Suikoden 2's PSP version has been restored to its original length. Additionally, some dialogue has been updated to reflect modern sensibilities; for example, Richmond's smoking habit has been removed to align with current Japanese smoking regulations.

Launch and Availability

Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster is scheduled to launch on March 6, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This highly anticipated remaster promises a revitalized experience for both veteran fans and newcomers alike.
