Stardew Valley 2 Considered, But Easier to Expand Original Game

Author:Kristen Update:May 14,2025

Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, the mastermind behind the beloved Stardew Valley, has hinted at the possibility of developing a sequel, tentatively titled "Stardew Valley 2." In an engaging interview with TigerBelly, Barone expressed that while the idea of a sequel is tempting, the ease of enhancing the existing game makes it a more immediate choice. "It's so much easier to just add more stuff to Stardew Valley than to make a whole new game from scratch," he explained, highlighting the complexity of building new systems from the ground up versus the fun of implementing whimsical ideas like "green rain" into updates for the current game.

Despite his enthusiasm for the original game, Barone is clear about not wanting to be pigeonholed as "the Stardew Valley guy." This ambition is driving his work on his next project, Haunted Chocolatier. However, fans eager for a release date will have to remain patient, as Barone noted there's "still a lot to be done" and his new game "has got to be better" than Stardew Valley.

When Stardew Valley first graced our screens in 2016, it received an impressive 8.8 "Great" rating in our initial review. Fast forward to 2024, and our reevaluation led us to crown it a 10/10 "masterpiece." We stated, "Stardew Valley is not only the best farming game I’ve played, it is one of my favorite games of all time. That myself and others keep returning to this eight-year-old gem each time it gets even the smallest update speaks to how it’s truly a masterpiece in the genre it both reinvigorated and has come to define."
