Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation

Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited fervent speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The official announcement on the Star Wars Celebration Instagram account follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 appearance, where she revealed her involvement in a new Star Wars film. This parallel has led many fans to anticipate a similar announcement from Isaac.

While the Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, Isaac's stance on returning to the franchise has evolved. Initially expressing reluctance, citing needing "another house or something" as a prerequisite in 2020, he later softened his position, telling Variety in 2022 that he was "open to anything."

Isaac's past criticisms of Disney, specifically their rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (played by John Boyega), haven't dampened the anticipation. Boyega himself, despite previously expressing negative sentiments towards Disney and the franchise, has also indicated openness to future roles.

This confluence of factors fuels speculation about a reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio – Rey, Finn, and Poe – in the upcoming Rey film. Set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, the film centers on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already voiced her support for Boyega's return, making Poe's inclusion a logical next step.

However, definitive answers may remain elusive for some time. Disney's repeated delays of numerous announced Star Wars films have pushed back the potential release date of the Rey film (directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy) to a tentative December 17, 2027, at the earliest. Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer hints, but concrete confirmation could be years away.
