Square Enix Reveals Kingdom Hearts 4, Shares Screenshots, Promises Unforgettable Experience

Author:Kristen Update:May 25,2025

Square Enix has put to rest any lingering doubts about the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a clear and exciting update shared on social media. The message, accompanied by captivating images, leaves no room for speculation—Kingdom Hearts 4 is definitely on its way.

This reassurance comes in the wake of yesterday's announcement that Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, the anticipated GPS-based action-RPG for mobile devices, has been canceled. However, Square Enix used this opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to Kingdom Hearts 4, stating they are "hard at work" on the project.

"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" the developer shared in their first of two posts. This message was accompanied by a collage of intriguing screenshots, offering fans a glimpse of characters, cinematics, combat, platforming, and an imposing large enemy.

In their second post, Square Enix expressed gratitude for the fans' excitement and support: "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."

This update marks the first substantial news about the eagerly awaited sequel in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Despite an initial reveal in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained largely silent on the project—until now.

Series director Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will, after 22 years and 18 games, finally shift the Kingdom Hearts narrative towards its conclusion, adding to the anticipation surrounding the game.

Regarding the cancellation of the mobile RPG Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix offered their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The decision to cancel was made because "it was determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
