Spider-Man Live-Action Project in Works at Sony

Sony's Spider-Man Universe is reportedly expanding with a new film featuring a live-action Miles Morales. While Marvel continues its own Spider-Man franchise, Sony is forging ahead with a project that could revitalize its own Spider-Man Universe (SSU).

Rumors suggest Sony is actively casting for the role of Miles Morales, a character who gained immense popularity in Sony's acclaimed animated Spider-Man films. Industry insider Jeff Sneider, on The Hot Mic podcast, revealed this casting news, sparking excitement among fans. Whether Miles will headline his own film or appear in a different SSU movie remains unclear, though the latter seems more probable. He could debut in a currently unannounced Spider-Man film or even the rumored Spider-Gwen project.

The success of the animated Miles Morales films, voiced by Shameik Moore, makes a live-action adaptation seem almost inevitable. Moore himself has expressed interest in the role, fueling fan speculation. Hailee Steinfeld, who voiced Gwen Stacy in the animated films, is another potential candidate who has voiced support for a live-action version.

While Sony's Venom films have performed well, other SSU projects like Madame Web and Morbius underwhelmed at the box office. A successful live-action Miles Morales film could significantly bolster the SSU, but concerns remain about Sony's ability to handle such a beloved character. Some fans believe Marvel Studios would be a better choice for this adaptation. Ultimately, the success hinges on Sony assembling the right creative team to do justice to the character. The wait continues to see how Sony will proceed and whether this new project can overcome previous setbacks to meet fan expectations.
