"Space Marine 2 Devs' April Fool's Joke Sparks Fan Excitement for Game Feature"

April Fool's Day has come and gone, but the gaming community is still buzzing about the clever jest from the developers of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. On April 1st, Focus Entertainment, the game's publisher, playfully announced the release of a new Chaplain class as DLC.

“In story mode, swap out Titus for The Chaplain and experience the game as a true Codex-compliant Ultramarine,” the announcement cheekily stated, likely causing a few smirks among the team. This fictitious 'DLC' was supposed to introduce the Chaplain as a playable character in the story mode, complete with an 'Enhanced Dialogue System.' Every five minutes, the Chaplain would remind his comrades that “the Codex Astartes does not support this action,” and threaten to report them to the Inquisition.

Adding to the humor, the Chaplain was given a special ability called Discipline, which would supposedly report any minor deviations from the Codex Astartes for a 5% discipline bonus, albeit at the cost of a -20% brotherhood bonus. This playful nod resonates well because players of Space Marine 2's campaign are familiar with Chaplain Quintus, who constantly scrutinizes protagonist Titus for any hint of heresy, despite Titus's unwavering loyalty to the Imperium, the Ultramarines, and the Emperor.

Throughout the game, as Titus battles the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons traitor legion, Quintus's hawk-like vigilance becomes a running theme. He's reminiscent of an overzealous school prefect, always on the lookout for rule-breakers to report. This has turned the Chaplain into a meme within the Space Marine community, which the April Fool's joke cleverly capitalized on. Some fans have even expressed a desire for the Chaplain to be added to the game as a warrior-priest, albeit without the satirical abilities.

“This would actually go hard if this was real,” noted ResidentDrama9739 on the Space Marine subreddit, sparking enthusiastic discussions about how the Chaplain could enhance the game. While fans speculate, Space Marine 2 is indeed set to introduce a new class soon, though Focus and developer Saber Interactive have kept the details under wraps. Speculation leans toward the Apothecary, a class akin to a medic, or the mystical Librarian, who wields warp-powered space magic. The Chaplain's humorous April Fool's appearance might not rule him out entirely for future updates.

Despite the surprise announcement of Space Marine 3's development, Space Marine 2 remains active with its year one roadmap and the upcoming Patch 7, slated for mid-April. Players can also look forward to new PvE operations and melee weapons in the coming months.
