Sony to Revive Handheld Gaming with New Portable Console

Sony reportedly plans a return to the handheld gaming console market, potentially challenging Nintendo's Switch. This news, originating from Bloomberg, suggests an early-stage development project. However, Sony hasn't confirmed market release, indicating the project remains uncertain.

Long-time gamers recall Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) and Vita. The Vita's popularity notwithstanding, the rise of mobile gaming led Sony and others to believe competing with smartphones was futile.

The recent success of the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and other handheld devices, coupled with advancements in mobile device technology, may have shifted Sony's perspective. A renewed market for high-fidelity portable gaming could exist, potentially attracting a dedicated customer base.
