Sony Reveals Mixed Updates on PS5 Themes

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 03,2025

Sony has provided an update on the beloved limited-time console themes for the PS5, which feature classic designs from the PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4. These nostalgia-infused themes are set to leave the platform tomorrow, January 31, 2025. However, fans can take heart in the news that Sony plans to reintroduce these cherished designs in the coming months.

In a statement on Twitter, Sony expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic reception to these themes: “Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow. Due to the positive response on these 4 themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead.”

Unfortunately, Sony also announced that there are no plans to develop new themes for the PS5 in the future. The company stated, “While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.” This news has disappointed many fans who hoped for more customization options on the PS5, especially since themes were a popular feature on previous PlayStation consoles.

These limited-time themes were introduced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation on December 3, 2024. Each theme brings a unique touch to the PS5's home screen and menus, reminiscent of the iconic designs of past consoles. The PSOne theme features the classic console on the home screen background, the PS2 theme incorporates its distinctive menu shapes, the PS3 theme includes its signature wave background, and the PS4 theme adds similar wave patterns. Additionally, all themes include the sound effects from their respective consoles, enhancing the nostalgic experience for users.
