On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to share that Sonic Rumble will be hitting the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this exciting news was a brand-new trailer, offering a glimpse into the game's dynamic gameplay.

Sonic Rumble marks the first multiplayer party game in the iconic Sonic series, allowing up to 32 players to compete in various levels and gameplay modes. Sega describes it as an adventure where "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the notorious Dr. Eggman, tackling challenging obstacle courses and hazardous arenas!"

As a free-to-play title, there have been concerns about potential pay-to-win elements. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these worries during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He reassured fans by stating, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."

Shortly after the release date announcement, Sega disclosed that Sonic Rumble has surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. This achievement unlocks a variety of in-game rewards for players, setting them up for a fantastic start:
