Sonic the Hedgehog: IDW Charts a Dramatic New Future for the Series – IGN Fan Fest 2025

IDW's long-running Sonic the Hedgehog comic series recently celebrated its 75th issue, marking a significant milestone. Sonic the Hedgehog #75 concluded the epic battle between Team Sonic and the villain Clutch, setting the stage for the ominous "Scattered Pieces" storyline.

"Scattered Pieces," spanning issues #76-80, continues the saga. With issue #76 already available, IGN exclusively reveals new artwork from Sonic the Hedgehog #79, the penultimate chapter of this arc, as part of IGN Fan Fest. A slideshow gallery showcases the three variant covers for #79, alongside previously unveiled "Scattered Pieces" covers.

Sonic the Hedgehog #79, written by Ian Flynn and featuring interior art and the main cover by Adam Bryce Thomas, with variant covers by Tyler Mcgrath and Nathalie Fourdraine, promises a climactic confrontation.

IDW's official description teases: "The long-running feud between ace sniper Whisper and sinister assassin Mimic reaches a climactic showdown! Only one will walk away! Can Tangle and Silver turn the tide of battle? Or will Whisper suffer another friend caught in the crossfire? It’s a thrilling battle years in the making!"

Flynn explains to IGN: "IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog has thrived for seven years, developing unique storylines, characters, and narrative elements. Evan Stanley’s recent arc brought many of these to a head. Reaching a climax is always exciting, but exploring the aftermath is equally compelling. Many fans will ask 'What happens next?' My arc answers that, offers its own conclusions, and sets the stage for Evan’s next major arc."
