After a successful closed alpha phase, Smite 2's open beta is now accessible for free on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Steam Deck. Alongside the launch of the free-to-play open beta, Titan Forge Games has rolled out a new Smite 2 patch that introduces exciting new gods, a beloved game mode, and much more.
Smite 2 was unveiled a year ago, promising a sequel to the beloved third-person MOBA, crafted with the power of Unreal Engine 5. This sequel offers an enhanced experience over its predecessor, with refined visuals and combat mechanics. It also features a revamped item shop, allowing players to access different items regardless of their chosen god's classification. Similar to the original Smite, players embody gods from various cultures to engage in thrilling 5v5 battles and siege the enemy team. Now, following the closed alpha phase, the game is open to everyone.
Starting January 14, Smite 2's open beta became available across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Epic Games Store and Steam), and Steam Deck, where players can download the game at no cost. The latest update brings a wealth of new content, including Aladdin, a god specifically designed for Smite 2. Aladdin can run along walls and even revive after death thanks to his companion's ability, which grants him three wishes. True to his legendary origins, Aladdin's ultimate allows him to use his lamp to capture enemies and force them into a 1v1 fight.
The other gods added to the Smite 2 roster include Geb, the Egyptian God of Earth; Mulan, the Chinese Ascendant Warrior; Agni, from the Hindu Pantheon; and Ullr, from the Norse Pantheon. In addition to these gods, Smite 2 brings back the popular Joust mode from the original Smite, where players face off on a smaller 3v3 map. The Conquest map and the Assault game mode are also available in the open beta.
Titan Forge Games’ creative director emphasized that Smite 2 is objectively superior to Smite in many aspects. The developer expressed gratitude to the player base for their feedback during the closed alpha, which helped refine Smite 2, and promised "ambitious content" for the game in 2025.
While the game is available on nearly every major platform, Nintendo Switch users will not be able to play Smite 2. The developer previously cited concerns about the console's ability to run the game smoothly. However, Titan Forge Games has shown interest in potentially bringing the game to the Switch 2. Meanwhile, Smite fans can already download and enjoy this sequel's open beta.
