Unveiling the New Trailer

The March 13, 2025 Silent Hill Transmission provided fans with exciting new details and a captivating trailer for Silent Hill f. Unlike its predecessors, this installment is set in 1960s Japan.

The game's narrative follows Shimizu Hinako, an ordinary teenager whose life takes a terrifying turn when her town is enveloped in a mysterious fog and undergoes a horrifying transformation. Hinako must navigate this unrecognizable landscape, solving puzzles, battling strange creatures, and ultimately confronting a deeply unsettling choice to survive.

Silent Hill f is set in the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by a real-world location in Kanayama, Gero, Gifu Prefecture. The developers meticulously recreated the town, capturing its intricate alleyways using reference photos, recorded ambient sounds, and historical materials to accurately depict the 1960s setting.

Finding Beauty in Terror

According to series producer Motoi Okamoto, the core concept behind Silent Hill f is to "find the beauty in terror." While retaining the series' signature psychological horror, the team aimed to explore the unique atmosphere of a Japanese setting and its inherent thematic possibilities.

Okamoto explains, "Japanese horror often presents the unsettling notion that excessive beauty can become deeply disturbing. Players will experience this world through the eyes of a young girl facing a choice that is both beautiful and terrifying."

A Standalone Silent Hill Experience

Okamoto emphasizes that Silent Hill f is a self-contained story, accessible to newcomers to the series. However, longtime fans can still expect subtle easter eggs and familiar elements woven throughout. The game's writer, Ryukishi07, renowned for his psychological Japanese horror visual novels, promises a thrilling experience for fans of his work.

Ryukishi07, a dedicated Silent Hill fan himself, highlights the game's dual nature: a return to the series' roots and a fresh set of challenges. A key challenge, he notes, was creating a truly authentic Silent Hill experience while diverging from the traditional town setting.

He states, "From a creator's perspective, I'm confident we've delivered a genuine Silent Hill game. However, we're eager to hear feedback from longtime fans to see if they agree."

Silent Hill f is now available to wishlist on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A specific release date has yet to be announced. For the latest updates, check out our related article!
