Shrek 5's New Look Is So Divisive, Even Movie Sonic Has Commented On It

Shrek 5's new teaser trailer and cast reveal has even surprised Sonic the Hedgehog. The official Sonic Movie TikTok account playfully offered "advice for green ogres," highlighting Sonic's own design evolution from his initially criticized live-action appearance to the later, well-received redesign.

IGN's exclusive first look at the 2018 Sonic the Hedgehog movie sparked considerable debate, focusing on aspects like the character's teeth, physique, eyes, and fingers. Director Jeff Fowler subsequently redesigned Sonic, resulting in a much more positive reception.

Initially announced in 2016, Shrek 5's development remained largely silent until Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri confirmed its progress in 2023, along with plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026.
