Showrunner Craig Mazin has made it clear that a fourth season is almost a necessity to fully explore the saga from the two Naughty Dog video games.

In a candid interview with Collider, Mazin explained that wrapping up the entire story within just three seasons would stretch Season 3 out indefinitely. He noted that while Season 3 might be "longer than Season 2," it's simply "not possible to complete this narrative in a third season." He added, "Hopefully, we’ll earn our keep enough to come back and finish it in a fourth. That’s the most likely outcome."
