It weighs 7.5 pounds and is 0.85 inches thick at its thinnest point. Like the 18-inch model, it comes with a 360W power brick and is recommended for use while plugged in. Despite its smaller size, it features a 16-inch display, a standard laptop keyboard without a numpad, and no ethernet port. However, it can match the larger model's internal specs, including an Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor and up to an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, thanks to its robust cooling system.

Four models are on sale for Memorial Day. The $2,850 model comes with an RTX 5070 Ti GPU. Both the $2,999.99 and $3,150 models feature an RTX 5080 GPU, while the $3,650 model is equipped with the top-tier RTX 5090 GPU.

This CPU / GPU Combo Excels in Any Game

The Alienware Area-51 laptops are powered by the formidable Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, which boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz, 24 cores, and 40MB of L2 cache. According to Passmark, this CPU is one of the fastest mobile processors available, rivaling the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.

The RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU, as reported by Notebookcheck, is considered the true successor to the RTX 4070, with performance matching the RTX 4080. The RTX 5070, however, offers performance similar to the RTX 4070 and should handle any game comfortably at the native 1920x1200 resolution.

According to Tom's Hardware, the RTX 5080 mobile GPU is 15%-20% more powerful than the RTX 4080 it replaces, and even outperforms the RTX 4090 by about 5%. It's also a better value than the more expensive RTX 5090, being nearly $1,000 cheaper while only lagging by about 15%. With the Alienware Area-51's QHD+ (2560x1600) display, the RTX 5080 should deliver high framerates for new and upcoming games, especially when utilizing DLSS 4 technology.

The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling

The 2025 Alienware Area-51 gaming laptop features a magnesium alloy chassis and an upgraded cooling system to manage the latest high-performance components. This includes additional fans, larger cutouts for better airflow, increased copper usage, and a new thermal interface material for superior heat dissipation. Dell claims the laptop can handle a 240W TDP without increasing noise levels.

Design-wise, the Area-51 showcases smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners, moving away from the typical squared-off designs. The hinges are mostly internal, making them nearly invisible. True to Alienware's style, there are extensive options for RGB LED customization. Connectivity includes three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt / USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16-inch model weighs 7.5 pounds, while the 18-inch model is 9.6 pounds.
