Sadie Sink, known for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, is set to join Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4, according to reports from Deadline. The film, part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is slated to begin production later this year and is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. Both Marvel and Sony have remained silent on the matter when approached for comment.

Speculation is rife about Sink's role, with Deadline suggesting she might portray either the X-Men character Jean Grey or another iconic redheaded character from the Spider-Man universe, such as Mary Jane Watson. The integration of Mary Jane Watson into the narrative could be intriguing, given Peter Parker's ongoing relationship with Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson, portrayed by Zendaya in the previous films. With Spider-Man: No Way Home setting the stage for a potential reset, Sink's role is expected to be significant.

Tom Holland, currently involved in filming Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, is expected to transition to Spider-Man 4 once he wraps up his current project.

Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, hinted at the inclusion of X-Men characters in upcoming MCU films during the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore. He mentioned that fans would encounter familiar X-Men characters in the next few movies, though he did not specify which characters or films. Feige also emphasized the importance of the X-Men in the MCU's future, particularly in the lead-up to and aftermath of Avengers: Secret Wars.

The next few MCU movies, including Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, may introduce these X-Men characters. However, the integration of mutants is more likely to be prominent in Phase 6, which includes Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man 4, and Avengers: Secret Wars. The return of characters like Deadpool and Wolverine, following their successful standalone film, and potential appearances by actors like Channing Tatum as Gambit, add to the excitement.

Feige has confirmed that the X-Men will play a crucial role in the MCU's future post-Secret Wars. He drew parallels to the narrative buildup before Avengers: Endgame, indicating a well-planned story arc leading to and beyond Secret Wars. This suggests that Phase 7 of the MCU will be heavily focused on the X-Men.

Storm's appearance in What If...? Season 3 marks her first entry into the broader MCU, signaling the beginning of mutant integration.

In October, Marvel Studios added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule, increasing speculation that one of these could be an X-Men film.
