Robert Eggers to Write and Direct Labyrinth Sequel

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 19,2025

Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth.

According to Variety, Eggers will pen the screenplay alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This follows a previous attempt at a sequel with Sinister director Scott Derrickson, which stalled. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to proceed with Eggers' vision.

PlayThe original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's journey into a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped baby brother with the aid of Henson's iconic puppets.

Eggers' plate is full. He's also helming a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English. The plot, unsurprisingly, will involve a werewolf transformation.

Nosferatu, Eggers' recent Christmas release, is a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film. The 19th-century German-set story centers on a real estate agent whose dealings in Transylvania unleash vampiric horrors upon him and his wife.

Nosferatu garnered four Academy Award nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Read our Nosferatu review [here](placeholder for review link).
