Like its predecessors, Dynasty Warriors: Origins plunges you into the heart of ancient China, letting you carve a path through history alongside various warlords. However, the game eventually requires you to commit to a specific faction. This guide explains the faction selection process.

Early Game Neutrality

The initial chapters feature the Wanderer, your character, as a neutral party. You'll assist Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei, participating in pivotal events like the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate. This allows you to experience each faction's early campaigns.

The Crucial Choice: Chapter 3

Chapter 3 marks a turning point. The game prompts you to choose a faction. Before making your decision, you'll have opportunities to complete missions for each of the three main factions: Sun Jian, Liu Bei, and Cao Cao. The number of missions required varies per faction: Sun Jian requires three, Liu Bei two, and Cao Cao only one.

Completing these missions unlocks a pivotal mission that forces you to select an allegiance. Only factions with completed mission requirements will be selectable. You can complete all factions' missions before making your final choice.

Irreversible Commitment

Your faction choice is permanent. Once you select a faction, you'll be locked out of that faction's side quests and will be unable to further your bond with its officers. This can impact gameplay difficulty, as some factions offer more opportunities for skill point acquisition through side quests than others.

Multiple Playthroughs Recommended

To experience all Dynasty Warriors: Origins content, consider creating a save file before selecting a faction. This allows you to replay the game with different allegiances and explore all available missions and storylines.
