How to Read DC’s Absolute Universe in Chronological Order

Author:Kristen Update:Jun 15,2025

If you're a DC Comics fan, you've likely heard about DC's All In publishing initiative—a bold new approach that gives top-tier creators the freedom to craft stories around some of the label’s most legendary heroes without being tied down by existing continuity. Spearheaded by acclaimed writers Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson—both known for their iconic runs on Batman and The Flash respectively—All In introduces the Absolute Universe, a major new storyline that builds upon the events of 2024’s Absolute Power arc.

This ambitious narrative redefines the status quo for DC’s trinity: Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, delivering fresh, unexpected takes that will surprise even long-time fans. But with multiple titles launching across late 2024 and into 2025, it can be tough to figure out where to start, what order to read them in, and how everything connects.

Important Note: Don’t confuse Absolute Universe comics with DC’s “Absolute Editions,” which are high-end collected omnibuses like The Absolute Batman: The Long Halloween. They’re completely separate!

Recommended Reading Order for DC’s Absolute Universe in 2025

To fully immerse yourself in the Absolute Universe, follow this reading guide and then proceed issue-by-issue as they release. Most core Absolute series run for six issues and will eventually be compiled into trade paperback collections.

1. DC All In Special #1 – Scott Snyder, Joshua Williamson, Wes Craig, Daniel Sampere

Start here. This oversized one-shot lays the foundation for the Absolute Universe storyline. Written by Scott Snyder, it sets the stage for the entire initiative and should be your entry point before diving into Absolute Batman.

2. Absolute Batman #1 – Scott Snyder & Nick Dragotta

Released in October 2024, this title marks the official beginning of the Absolute Universe. It presents a gritty, grounded take on the Caped Crusader—what if Bruce Wayne had no fortune, no Batcave, and no Alfred? This is a raw, stripped-down Batman unlike any you’ve seen before.

3. Absolute Wonder Woman #1 – Kelly Thompson & Hayden Sherman

Arriving just weeks after Absolute Batman #1, this version of Wonder Woman reimagines Diana as a fierce, weapon-wielding Amazon warrior on a quest for meaning. It breaks away from traditional Greek mythology to offer a more action-driven origin story.

4. Absolute Superman #1 – Jason Aaron & Rafa Sandoval

From celebrated writer Jason Aaron comes a grounded, emotionally rich take on the Man of Steel. In this universe, Clark Kent doesn't have the same advantages—making his journey to becoming a hero all the more compelling.

5. Absolute Flash #1 – Jeff Lemire & Nick Robles

Launching in early 2025, this title kicks off the second wave of the Absolute Universe. Wally West must discover the full scope of his powers without the usual support systems—no Speed Force family or established lore to lean on.

6. Absolute Martian Manhunter #1 – Deniz Camp & Javier Rodriguez

Another 2025 addition, this title offers the most radical reinterpretation yet. FBI agent John Jones finds himself slowly overtaken by an alien consciousness, pulling him into a larger cosmic conflict he never saw coming.

7. Absolute Green Lantern #1 – Al Ewing & Jahnoy Lindsay

This installment brings together four past Green Lanterns—Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Jo Mullein—to deal with a mysterious crash landing in a small town, setting off a chain of events that could shake the galaxy.

Upcoming Collected Editions

As of now, only the first three Absolute Universe volumes have confirmed release dates:

  • Absolute Batman Vol. 1: The Zoo – August 5
  • Absolute Wonder Woman Vol. 1: The Last Amazon – August 12
  • Absolute Superman Vol. 1: The Last Dust of Krypton – August 19

While this is all that’s officially scheduled, don’t be surprised if these interconnected stories lead to a larger crossover event by late 2025 or beyond—with more heroes expected to join the Absolute Universe in the future.
