Get ready for an exciting return to the world of Rambo, as a new prequel project titled "John Rambo" is in the works, directed by the acclaimed filmmaker behind "Sisu" and "Big Game," Jalmari Helander. According to Deadline, Millennium Media is actively launching this film at the Cannes market, a key event during the Cannes Film Festival where emerging film projects are showcased to potential investors and distribution partners. Millennium Media, renowned for their work on the Expendables and Has Fallen series, previously contributed to the production of 2008's "Rambo" and 2019's "Rambo: Last Blood."

While plot details for "John Rambo" are scarce, we know it will be set during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the iconic 1982 film "First Blood." Casting has yet to be finalized, and although Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project, he is not currently involved.

The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been crafted by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, known for their work on "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Filming is scheduled to start in October in Thailand, promising an authentic backdrop for this intense prequel.

Although a Rambo prequel might come as a surprise, Jalmari Helander's experience with high-octane action in his 2023 WWII film "Sisu" showcases his ability to handle such a project. "Sisu" transformed the concept of John Wick into an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis during the Lapland War, proving Helander's knack for gripping, action-packed storytelling.
