The Pokémon Company has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. Read on to discover more about Pokémon TCG Pocket's future in the competitive scene and the potential reasons behind this decision.
Currently, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to enter Pokémon’s competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company's Director of eSports, mentioned that while they are always evaluating different titles for inclusion in the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate horizon.
He humorously noted, "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing the company's April Fool’s parody trailer for the Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he made it clear that "At this time, there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
While no official reasons have been given for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, which launched in October 2024, is still in its early stages with only four months under its belt and two sets released.
Despite having competitive features available since launch, players have been vocal about the need for better balancing. Pokémon TCG Pocket, a simplified version of the traditional Pokémon card game, is designed to be more accessible to beginners, which may not align with the competitive atmosphere the circuit demands.
Nevertheless, The Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to offer a variety of events for fans, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will be featured at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.

The upcoming Pokémon Presents event might unveil a new set for Pokémon TCG Pocket, following the release of the Space Time Smackdown set on January 30, 2025. While Pokémon has kept details under wraps, fans are buzzing with speculation about significant announcements for the franchise.
Despite the lack of new information since its initial announcement in 2024, anticipation remains high for any updates on Pokémon Legends: Z-A, expected to launch in 2025. With new mega evolutions also on the horizon, the livestream could shed light on these developments. The upcoming Pokémon Presents may offer insights into Pokémon's plans across its various games.
The Pokémon Day 2025 Pokémon Presents livestream is scheduled for February 27, 2025, at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET, and will be streamed on YouTube and Twitch. For more details on the upcoming event, visit our Pokémon Day 2025 page.
