Niantic has revealed details for the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year 2025 event, kicking off January 29th and offering players exciting opportunities to catch Lucky Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and earn valuable rewards. Similar to the recent Fashion Week event, players can complete Field Research tasks for bonus rewards.

This event coincides with Pokémon GO's ninth anniversary celebrations in 2025, which include several new events and updates leading up to the summer and Pokémon GO Fest. This Lunar New Year event precedes Pokémon GO Tour: Unova (February 21st-23rd in Los Angeles and New Taipei City, global event in March), providing a chance to add new Pokémon to your collection beforehand.

The Pokémon GO Lunar New Year event runs from Wednesday, January 29th, 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, February 2nd, 8:00 p.m. local time. Niantic highlights increased chances of obtaining Lucky Pokémon from trades and becoming Lucky Friends. Wild encounters will feature boosted spawn rates for Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini, with increased Shiny Pokémon chances. 2km Eggs will hatch Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi.
