Should You Use Pebbles or Herring in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2?

In *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, Henry faces the decision of choosing between two horses: Pebbles and Herring. This choice is pivotal for your journey through the game, as your horse will be your loyal companion through thick and thin.

How To Find Pebbles in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

You'll have the chance to reunite with Pebbles at the Semine estate before the wedding between Lord Semine and Agnes. She's waiting in the stables, but to ride her during your quest with Jan Semine, known as "The Jaunt," you'll need to purchase her. Pebbles isn't just any horse; she's Henry's trusted steed and has been his faithful companion, much like Mutt, whom you can find through side quests.

How To Receive Herring in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Herring becomes available after you complete the quest "For Whom the Bell Tolls." If you haven't acquired Pebbles or another horse by this point, Otto von Bergow generously offers you Herring. Should you already have a horse and decide against keeping Herring, you can negotiate a deal with Kabat, selling him to nomad traders for 300 Groschen.

At first glance, Herring may seem like the superior choice due to his higher base stats. However, this initial advantage can be misleading. Each horse in the game has a unique perk that activates after riding a specific distance, which varies between horses. This perk significantly boosts their stats, leveling the playing field.

Pebbles, despite not having the highest stats even after her perk is activated, emerges as the best horse you can choose. You can acquire her at a lower cost compared to many other horses, and her perk is unlocked after just 35 kilometers of riding. In contrast, Herring requires 50 kilometers to unlock his perk. Pebbles' boosted stats are impressive, offering:

  • 217 stamina
  • 353 capacity
  • 53 speed
  • 12 courage

Pebbles stands out not only for her reliability and decent stats but also because she's a great bargain. You can unlock her for free, and her perk is achieved more quickly than with other horses. Moreover, there's a sentimental value to choosing Pebbles; she has been with Henry since before the events of the game, making her a true companion throughout his journey.

When deciding between Pebbles and Herring in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, you can't go wrong with Pebbles. Given the extensive travel required in the game, having a dependable steed like Pebbles is invaluable.

*Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
