Paradox Interactive has unveiled its latest grand strategy game, Europa Universalis 5, following a teaser posted last week. The publisher, known for games like Cities: Skylines, Crusader Kings, and Stellaris, revealed the new title with an impressive cinematic trailer today. Developed by Paradox Tinto in Barcelona, Spain, the same team that has worked on Europa Universalis 4 for several years, the game does not yet have a release date, but an official Europa Universalis 5 Steam page is already live.

“Challenge your strategic skills over 500 years of history, in Europa Universalis 5, the latest version of the celebrated grand strategy game,” states Paradox Interactive. “Master the arts of war, trade, diplomacy, and government in the largest and most detailed Europa Universalis game ever. Guide the destiny of any of hundreds of nations and societies in a simulated living world of unparalleled depth and complexity.”

Europa Universalis 5 has been in development at Paradox Tinto for over five years, designed with the dedicated Paradox fanbase in mind. The team has incorporated feedback from over a year of public discussion, ensuring that the community's voice has significantly influenced what they describe as “the largest and most detailed Europa Universalis game ever made.”

The game's campaign starts at the beginning of the Hundred Years’ War in 1337. As players navigate through major historical events, they'll benefit from a host of new features. Highlights from the reveal include a new, larger map with accurate map projection and hundreds of societies, a population-based system, and enhanced production and trade systems. Players can build farms, plantations, and factories, or engage in trade with neighboring regions, all aimed at crafting a strategy experience that allows players to build and manage their nation as they see fit.

Last week's teaser hinted at a mysterious and “ambitious” project from Paradox, though fans had largely figured out what was coming.
