Palworld PS5 Release Excludes Japan, Nintendo Lawsuit Likely the ReasonFollowing its Xbox and PC releases, Palworld finally arrived on PlayStation consoles, as revealed during September 2024's PlayStation State of Play. However, a significant exception exists: the PS5 launch is indefinitely delayed in Japan.

Palworld's PlayStation 5 Debut in Japan: An Unexpected Delay

Palworld's PS5 State of Play Reveal

The PS5 version of Palworld launched globally, as announced at the PlayStation State of Play event in September 2024. Sony even showcased a trailer featuring Palworld characters sporting gear inspired by Aloy from *Horizon Forbidden West*.

Despite the global launch, Japanese PlayStation gamers are currently unable to access the game. This is attributed to ongoing legal action between Nintendo/Pokémon and Pocketpair, Palworld's developer. A patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nintendo and Pokémon has seemingly placed the Japanese PS5 release on hold.

The Uncertain Future of Palworld's Japanese PS5 Release

Palworld's official Japanese Twitter (X) account addressed the situation, acknowledging the global release in 68 countries and regions but confirming the indefinite delay in Japan. They apologized for the disappointment and stated that a release date remains undetermined. They pledged to work towards a release for all PS5 users as soon as possible.

While Pocketpair hasn't explicitly stated the reason for the delay, the ongoing legal battle is widely considered the primary cause. Nintendo's lawsuit, filed in Tokyo court, seeks an injunction and damages, potentially leading to the cessation of Palworld's operations and removal from the market entirely. The granting of an injunction would significantly impact the game's future availability.
