Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for an exciting crossplay update set to launch in late March 2025. John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" that will accompany the March update, adding to the anticipation. This news is especially exciting for the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access launch in January 2024. Looking ahead, Pocketpair has outlined a robust content roadmap for 2025, which includes the crossplay update, an "ending scenario," and additional new content for this immensely popular creature-catching survival game.

Palworld made a splash upon its release on Steam for $30 and simultaneously on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, breaking sales records and achieving unprecedented concurrent player numbers. The game's massive success overwhelmed Pocketpair, with CEO Takuro Mizobe admitting that the studio struggled to manage the enormous profits generated. Swiftly capitalizing on this momentum, Pocketpair forged a partnership with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, a new venture aimed at expanding the Palworld IP and bringing the game to PS5.

However, looming over these developments is a legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. They are seeking an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages, alleging that Palworld has violated "multiple" patent rights. In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and made adjustments to how players summon Pals in the game. The studio has firmly stated its intention to defend its position in court, declaring, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
