The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Dominates Steam Charts

Author:Kristen Update:Aug 10,2025

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered made a stunning debut on Steam, hitting a peak of over 180,000 concurrent players on its launch day.

Bethesda’s surprise release of Oblivion Remastered on April 22 propelled it to the top of Steam’s global best-sellers list, surpassing heavyweights like Counter-Strike 2, Schedule I, and Overwatch 2, which recently received a major update.

Yesterday, Oblivion Remastered ranked as Steam’s fourth most-played title, trailing only Counter-Strike 2, PUBG, and Dota 2. It currently leads as the platform’s top single-player RPG, outpacing Baldur’s Gate 3, and boasts a ‘very positive’ user review score.

Steam data only tells part of the story. As a Microsoft-owned title through Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media, Oblivion Remastered launched directly on Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate subscribers, likely drawing a massive player base via the service.

The game also rolled out on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. While Microsoft and Sony keep player counts private, the true launch-day concurrent player figure likely far exceeds the 180,000 recorded on Steam.

The title is already a major hit, though Bethesda has yet to share total player or sales figures. With its first weekend approaching, player numbers are expected to climb even higher.

Crafted by remake experts Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered features a host of visual and gameplay enhancements. It delivers 4K resolution at 60 FPS, alongside revamped leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. New dialogue, an improved third-person perspective, and advanced lip-sync technology elevate the experience. Fans are thrilled, with some arguing it feels more like a remake, though Bethesda insists on the remaster label.

Originally released in 2006 as a sequel to Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion hit PC and Xbox 360, followed by PlayStation 3 in 2007. Set in the vibrant province of Cyrodiil, it follows the player’s quest to thwart a fanatical cult intent on opening portals to the demonic realm of Oblivion.
