Nintendo Updates Switch Online App: New Features Revealed

Author:Kristen Update:Jun 19,2025

With the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 just days away on June 5, Nintendo has rolled out a major update and rebrand for its companion app, now simply known as the Nintendo Switch App. This marks a notable shift, especially since the “Nintendo Switch Online” branding was closely tied to Nintendo’s subscription service that offers online multiplayer features and access to a vast library of classic games spanning multiple generations—from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and even the newly added GameCube titles in celebration of the new console’s launch.

The Version 3.0.1 update not only drops the word “Online” from the app’s name but also introduces a cleaner, more intuitive interface. The redesigned layout enhances usability and supports the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, including features like GameChat invitations. Users can now manage their friends list directly within the app and opt-in to receive notifications when friends come online—making it easier than ever to jump into multiplayer sessions with your squad.

One standout improvement is the enhanced media management system. Players can now upload screenshots and video clips directly to the app, making it simpler to share highlights or keep a personal collection synced across devices.
