During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly all games from the original Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Excitingly, a select few titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting unique features. Highlighted games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers distinct upgrades. The presentation kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces a feature called "Jamboree TV." This upgrade brings mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.

Next up, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will see improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they'll benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, offering voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations from Tears of the Kingdom via QR code with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new exclusive story, "Star-Crossed World," along with upgraded graphics and framerates.

Two eagerly anticipated new titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, are also getting enhanced versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and boast 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature better resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Moreover, for those who already own the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

The buzz about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week with a footnote on a new webpage about the Virtual Game Card system, noting that these editions cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
