"Nintendo Switch 2 Unveiled with Zelda Speedrun Applause"

Author:Kristen Update:May 17,2025

A speedrunner for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild made headlines by completing the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the acclaimed RPG in just 10 minutes at the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience in Japan. Japanese content creator Ikaboze achieved this impressive feat using an existing save file, without knowing the equipment Link had available. In a bold move, Ikaboze decided to "defeat the final boss while tied up completely naked and with all my equipment removed." Starting from a save that placed him directly into the final boss fight with Ganon, Ikaboze managed to defeat the boss in just seven minutes, prompting spontaneous applause from onlookers.

The challenge was made even more daunting as Ikaboze used an unfamiliar controller and couldn't hear the game due to the noise of the convention hall. Reflecting on the experience, Ikaboze shared, “I was surprised by how many people had gathered. Staff were even filming on their smartphones. This was the first time anyone had completed the Breath of the Wild demo, and staff congratulated me."

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and support for the new "Zelda Notes" service within the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10. Additionally, both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom upgrade packs are available at no extra cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers.

For those not opting for the upgrade, here are the prices of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games in the U.S.:

  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders became available on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The pre-orders were met with overwhelming demand, as expected. Nintendo has cautioned U.S. customers who pre-ordered from the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to the high demand.
