Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Begin in UK on Amazon

Author:Kristen Update:May 28,2025

Amazon UK has now opened preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 to everyone, moving away from its previous invite-only system. You can secure your preorder today with the assurance that Amazon won't charge you until your console ships, offering a low-risk way to guarantee your purchase. Initially, some users saw a June 7th delivery estimate, but Amazon support has clarified this as an error, confirming that the current plan is for launch day delivery on June 5th.

In contrast to the situation in the US, UK preorders are proceeding smoothly, with no reported price increases or delays. Interestingly, US users have been able to preorder the Switch 2 from the UK using international shipping, though success may vary. Argos is also back with a fresh round of Switch 2 preorders in stock today, April 8, in the UK, including the console, games, and accessories. If you missed out last time, now's your chance to secure one without any hassle.

Nintendo's official UK preorders also began today, with retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths experiencing rapid sell-outs. Unfortunately, this has led to scalpers appearing on eBay with inflated prices. Currently, Amazon and Argos seem to be the most reliable options for securing a Switch 2 in the UK.

In IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 preview, Logan Plant noted, "Switch 2 is a more premium product with a price tag to match. It's an enhanced version of a beloved console, introducing new features like mouse controls. We're both excited to buy it on day one, and our hands-on time was delightful. However, I have some concerns about whether the general public will embrace a $450 Nintendo console, especially with an $80 Mario Kart."

"This is a significant investment for a company known for targeting families and younger players, and the high entry cost might limit the Switch 2's potential to replicate the success of its predecessor. Yet, for those willing to invest, the Switch 2 promises to be a fantastic hybrid console with significant improvements and fun additions."

Play35% Off NSO Expansion Pack Memberships --------------------------------------

One of the standout features of the Switch 2 is its exclusive online library, including GameCube games. UK retailer ShopTo is currently offering a 35% discount on NSO Expansion Pack memberships, with an extra 5% off using code SPRING at checkout. This is a great deal to consider as you secure your Switch 2 preorders.

While some Nintendo Classics are accessible with the base online subscription, you'll need the Expansion Pack to enjoy GameCube titles on the Nintendo Switch 2. The Expansion Pack is available only on the 12-month plan. For individual players, the Online + Expansion Pack plan is £24.55, or you can opt for the Family Membership at £43.55 with the promo code SPRING.

In a surprising move, Nintendo has delayed the start of Switch 2 preorders in the United States, just days before they were set to go live. This decision is in response to ongoing tariff concerns and what the company describes as "evolving market conditions," referencing the potential revival of Trump-era import duties on electronics.

Preorders were originally scheduled to begin on April 9 in the US, but Nintendo has now put them on hold indefinitely. While no new date has been provided, the company has reassured fans that the Switch 2’s global release date—June 5, 2025—remains unchanged.

The official statement Nintendo shared with IGN: "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged."

For now, the preorder freeze applies exclusively to the US market. UK preorders remain on track, with no changes to pricing or availability. Retailers like Amazon UK are actively sending out preorder invitations, and launch-day stock is already starting to dry up across major outlets.

Nintendo announced that the Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 USD, while the Mario Kart World bundle, which includes the full game, is set at $499.99 USD. Mario Kart World will also be sold separately for $79.99 USD.

PlaySwitch 2 UK Preorder News -------------------------

If you prefer not to pay upfront, Amazon remains your best option in the UK. While retailers like Argos require immediate payment, Amazon won’t charge until dispatch—making it a safer bet if you're budgeting ahead of June. Amazon's invite system appears to be a ballot where invitees are selected randomly.

For preorders at the Nintendo Store, access is limited to long-time Nintendo Switch Online subscribers with high playtimes and shared usage data. In contrast, Amazon’s invite system is more accessible, operating on a simple ballot, giving everyone a fair shot—regardless of play history or membership status. Currys and Smyths are also expected to offer more preorder opportunities later through email alerts and queue systems, similar to their successful PS5 launch approach.

With Currys and Smyths, it will likely involve sending out an email when preorders are opened, followed by a queued ordering system. This was the method Currys used for PS5 preorders, which worked without site crashes. This means you might face a longer wait from these alternative retailers, but it's less frustrating if you don't meet the strict requirements to order directly from Nintendo.
