Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Mouse Theory Is Looking Pretty Good Right About Now

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 17,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning lends significant credence to rumors suggesting Joy-Con functionality as a mouse.

PlayThe reveal trailer showcases detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to connectors with flat bottoms. They then demonstrably slide across the surface, mimicking mouse movement. A closer look even reveals what appears to be a slider pad on one connector, further supporting this theory.

Pre-reveal speculation centered on an internal Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice, enabling this functionality. However, Nintendo has yet to officially confirm this feature or its implications. While fans anticipate improved experiences for traditionally mouse-and-keyboard games like Civilization, others envision innovative applications within Nintendo's first-party titles. The possibilities remain excitingly open.

Despite the unknowns surrounding potential mouse support (and the purpose of that mysterious new Joy-Con button), we have a solid foundation of confirmed information. We know it's called the Nintendo Switch 2, launching in 2025, and a new Mario Kart is in development. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is assured, and further software details will be unveiled during an April Direct. Stay tuned for comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 coverage here.
